Mycelium Network Series
The Mycelium Network series explored the concept of interconnection, inspired by both natural systems and philosophical ideas like the rhizome. Just as the mycelium forms an underground web of roots, facilitating communication and nutrient exchange between plants, the rhizome (as proposed by philosophers Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari) is a model of thought that rejects linearity and hierarchical structures. Instead, the rhizome emphasises non-hierarchical, decentralised growth, multiplicity, and interconnectedness—mirroring the mycelium's ability to form networks without a clear beginning or end.
This series used interactivity to showcase interconnectedness and the rhizomatic nature of networks. Viewers engaged with the artwork, activating light and sound by touching different points, simulating the flow of energy and information. This interaction highlighted the collaborative nature of ecosystems, where invisible connections are vital for survival. By allowing multiple inputs, the artwork emphasised that every action contributes to a dynamic system, reinforcing the importance of interconnection and collective power in both nature and human systems.
